Legal Authority:

The personal information you provide in this application is collected under the authority of the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council Act.

Purpose, Uses and Disclosure:

The self-identification information you have provided is to support the administration of the NSERC funding opportunities, in accordance with the NSERC Funding Opportunities Personal Information Bank, NSERC PPU 060 (formerly NSERC PPU 060 and NSERC PPU 065). Consistent with these purposes, personal information within this bank may also be used and/or disclosed to promote equitable participation of members of underrepresented groups in NSERC programs and on NSERC committees – by leveraging individuals' self-identification information but only on a voluntary basis and subject to prior express consent.

The information you provide through this site is collected and used to determine your eligibility for designated funding under the scope of the Tri-Agency Policy on Indigenous Citizenship and Membership Affirmation (the Policy). To accept and receive funding for any opportunity subject to the Policy, you must provide supporting documentation as per the Directive on the Tri-Agency Policy on Indigenous Citizenship and Membership Affirmation. Providing citizenship or membership affirmation information is mandatory and refusal to provide information will cause your application to be declared ineligible to receive funding.  The information provided may be shared between CIHR, NSERC, and SSHRC to facilitate the affirmation processes should you apply to multiple agencies.

The personal information you provide will be kept confidential and will not be used or disclosed for any other purposes without your consent unless required by law. In addition, the personal information you provide will be used for future program design and delivery, results measurement and reporting purposes. This use of your personal information will only be reported in a form (e.g., aggregate) that will not identify you.

Privacy Rights:

Your personal information is administered in accordance with the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council Act and the Privacy Act. You have the right to the protection of, access to, and correction of your personal information which is described in the Standard Personal Information Bank PSU 901.

In addition to protecting your personal information, the Privacy Act gives you the right to request access to and correction of your personal information. If you believe your personal information has been mishandled or have concerns about NSERC's privacy practices, you have the right to file a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
